ST. PETERSBURG — More than 75 families attended a Family Engagement Workshop earlier this month held at John Hopkins Middle School. The workshop was created specifically for the five Transformation Zone schools: Campbell Park, Fairmount Park, Lakewood, Maximo and Melrose elementary.
While parents attended two workshop sessions, the more than 100 children who were in attendance participated in student activities led by the R’Club. The workshops, led by staff from each of the five schools, gave parents the opportunity to learn how they can better support their child’s education.
A focus group with district staff was also held with newly recruited Parent Ambassadors. The Ambassadors are parent-leaders from each of the five Transformation Zone schools who will work with the district on communication and engagement opportunities.
Families were given a box of food and a bag of fruit, and the students received toys at the end of the evening.
The City of St. Petersburg and local churches provided free transportation to the workshop.
