ST. PETERSBURG –Members of St. Petersburg’s 5000 Role Models put the finishing touches on a two-month project last month to raise funds to rent a bus that will be taking them on college tours to north Florida starting Friday, April 14.
These young men, who stepped up to the plate over the last couple of months, are shining examples of what African-American male high school students are capable of doing under quality leadership, especially leadership from the 5000 Role Models program.
Gibbs High counselor Javarius Green not only spearheaded the project but also rolled his sleeves up to help the young men wash cars every two weeks since Jan. 29 at No Limit Mobile Detailing, 534 Fifth Ave. S.
As of the end of last month, the fundraising effort has resulted in more than $800 from car washes and online contributions.
Nearly 400 young men will board the bus to north Florida to visit Florida A&M University, Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College.
