Mayor Welch manned his ‘Coffee with Ken’ table at the first Mayor Welch’s City Hall On Tour event at Walter Fuller Recreation Center on March 20.
ST. PETERSBURG — Mayor Ken Welch is taking St. Pete City Hall on tour throughout the year with the “Mayor Welch’s City Hall On Tour” event series. Each quarter, the mayor and members of his city leadership team will host “open house” tour stops at four different recreation facilities to listen to and learn from residents about their needs.
His first stop on the tour was held on Monday at Walter Fuller Recreation Center. The mayor, city administrators and first responders packed into the gymnasium to answer questions from the public. Instead of presenting information, officials set up tables and spoke with attendees individually.
Mayor Welch’s table — Coffee with Ken — included topics such as zoning changes and historic preservation.
“This is how you remain in touch with the citizens in the neighborhood,” Welch said. “Actually coming out into the neighborhood – in this case, the west side of town – at a time when folks can come after work, they can have something to eat, and they can talk to any of our departments.”
These open house stops will purposely be held in different neighborhoods, allowing all residents to ask questions and address concerns with key city leadership. “Mayor Welch’s City Hall On Tour” series is family-friendly, and the recreation centers will be open for normal business so that youth programming will be available throughout the evening.
