In an election held last December, Rev. Dr. Julius L. Wynn, Sr. became Galilee’s new pastor. He is the fifth pastor to lead the congregation since its establishment in 1940.
ST. PETERSBURG — Rev. Dr. Julius L. Wynn, Sr., became Galilee’s new pastor in an election held on Dec. 29, 2022. He is the fifth pastor to lead the congregation since its establishment in 1940.
Wynn was born and raised in Sanford, Fla., and graduated from Sanford Seminole High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University, a master’s degree, and a doctorate of education from the University of South Florida. He completed further studies in Theology at Florida Beacon Bible College in Largo.
Wynn served for over 27 years as pastor of Highland Missionary Baptist Church in Tampa and currently serves as the personal secretary to Dr. Bartholomew Banks, president of the Progressive Missionary and Educational Baptist State Convention of Florida; Chairman of the Home Mission Board for Progressive Missionary and Educational Baptist State Convention of Florida and as a Home Mission Board Member of the National Baptist Convention of American International, Inc.
Wynn is a Senior Core faculty professor at the American College of Education and an adjunct professor of Ethics and the Teaching of Diverse Populations in Education at St. Petersburg College. He retired last July from a 35-year career as a mathematics teacher and assistant principal for the Pinellas County School Board.
He has been married to Mrs. Tonya Warren Wynn for 37 years. They are the proud parents of one son, two daughters and six grandchildren.
The congregation of Galilee welcomed Wynn for his first official sermon as pastor-elect on Feb. 5.
To mark the occasion, an installation banquet was held on April 22, with the installation worship service the following day. Guest Speakers included Banks, Rev. Rollie Murray, pastor of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Orlando and Rev. Konrad McCree, Jr., pastor of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church of Clearwater.
