Pastor’s Corner: Let the haters hate

We live in a world full of opportunity and we are empowered by the greatness of our God to achieve extraordinary things. Simply stated, “You are destined for greatness.”

It is important that you get this powerful message into your spirit. It is important because your destiny is under attack. This should not come as a surprise to you, but you have haters. Jesus had them, and so do you and I. Jesus said, “You will be hated by everyone because of me.” (Matthew 10:22)

There are people in this world who are demonically influenced to create confusion, pain and discomfort in your life. They are being used, some knowingly and others unknowingly, by Satan to sabotage the work that God is doing through you.

Their evil debauchery stops today. Jesus goes on to say, “but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” (Matthew10:22) Additionally, Jesus says in John 16:33: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

The bottom line, don’t worry about your haters. They have already been defeated by the power of Christ working in you. Do not waste time and energy worrying about your haters. The work that God has given you is too valuable. Let the haters keep on hating, while you keep on loving and doing the work of the Lord.

Consider the response of Nehemiah who is focused on his God-given assignment when he receives a request from his haters to meet with them. Nehemiah replies, “I am engaged in a great work, so I cannot come. Why should I stop working to come and meet with you?” (Nehemiah 6:3)

I encourage you to use the Nehemiah approach. Stop letting people who mean you no good, waste your time. But, here is my challenge to you: Do it in a way that shows forth the love of God. We must demonstrate the love of God when we are hated and persecuted.

In fact, the only proper response to hate and persecution is with the love of Christ. Remember, a kind word turns away anger (Proverbs 15:1) and it will also turn away your haters. By so doing, we overcome the temptation to be mean, inconsiderate, or vindictive. You have been empowered by God to overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21) AMEN!
