ST. PETERSBURG — The Friends of the James Weldon Johnson Community Library will present three traditional Bee events over the summer beginning with the Spelling Bee. All three Bees will take place Wednesdays and will start promptly at 6:15 p.m.
Study sheets are available online at the Library or at www.splibraries.org for both the Spelling Bee (June 24) and the Geography Bee (August 12). To prepare for the Math Bee (July 15), students can practice solving problems online at www.VMATHLIVE.com.
New this year: Tutoring sessions will be offered starting this Thurs., June 25 through Tues., June 23 from 3- 4:30 p.m., in the Johnson Community Room inside the library. Tutoring dates and times for the Math and Geography Bees will be announced.
Children will compete in one of three groups depending on what grade they will be attending this fall: K-first-second, third-fourth or fifth-sixth. The top three finishers in each group win prizes. Studying for the Bees helps students retain academic skills over the summer. The competitions also provide a fun way to gain public speaking experience and develop sportsmanship.
Families are invited to attend and cheer on the contestants. The Johnson Community Library is located at 1059 18th Ave. S., St. Petersburg. For more information or to pre-register, call 727 893-7113.
