TAMPA — The Tampa-Hillsborough Action Plan, Inc. (THAPgroup) and it’s 5508 CoWorking & Collaboration Exchange is hosting a two-day Juneteenth weekend experience focusing on entrepreneurship, community revitalization and youth education.
Held at 5508 North 50th St., Tampa, the Black Wall Street Experience & Business Expo reflects on pivotal and impactful moments in African-American history while creating avenues for stimulating community conversation and forward economic development.
On Friday, June 14 at 6 p.m., community members will experience an evening mixer and dinner social alongside the premiere of the “Black Wall Street” stage play, written by Florida playwright Hallie Balbuena. The stage play captures the compelling history of the 1921 attack on Greenwood, a flourishing black community in Tulsa, Okla., and emphasizes the importance of strengthening business, commerce and homeownership in our local communities.
Saturday, June 15 events include a 9 a.m. Entrepreneurship & Real Estate Panel Breakfast featuring experts who will share advice on entrepreneurship, real estate investment, sustainable business practices and community development.
Saturday’s 11 a.m. Small Business Expo will feature live music, the Shops of 5508, food trucks, culinary arts, retailers, health and wellness specialists, financial managers, technology experts, makeup & beauty artists, fashion & accessories, and more. The Small Business Expo, sponsored by Wells Fargo, is free to the community and is centered on highlighting small and minority businesses in East Tampa.
The “Black Wall Street” stage play continues show times throughout the day on Saturday, with a 2 p.m. youth and student matinée and a 7 p.m. encore showing to round out the Juneteenth weekend. The full June 14-15 weekend event will be held at 5508 North 50th St., Tampa.
The community is invited to take part of the experience – from the stage play to the panel breakfast to the FREE community small business expo.
