Juneteenth kickoff at Enoch Davis a great success

The Midtown Celebrity Club, Inc., in conjunction with the City of St. Petersburg, Enoch Davis Community Center and several other sponsors, kicked-off Juneteenth with a celebration on June 3.

ST. PETERSBURG — The Midtown Celebrity Club, Inc., in conjunction with the City of St. Petersburg, Enoch Davis Community Center and several other sponsors, led this year’s Juneteenth celebration season!

Paulette Jones, president of Midtown Celebrity Club, presented Deanie K. Victor with the Juneteenth Trailblazers Award.

Held at the Enoch Davis Center on June 3, the event included food, entertainment, a chance for people to get information about community resources and an opportunity to learn about the history of Juneteenth and how to celebrate it. The event also featured the raising of the official Juneteenth flag.

Lawson Funeral Home and Cremation Service was presented with the Juneteenth Business of the Year Award

Paulette Jones, president of Midtown Celebrity Club, was the mistress of ceremonies and was honored by Enoch Davis Center with a 10-year plaque for her years of public service and Juneteenth advocacy in the community. Midtown Celebrity Club awarded Deanie K. Victor with the Juneteenth Trailblazers Award and Lawson Funeral Home and Cremation Service with the Juneteenth Business of the Year Award.

City Council Vice Chair Deborah Figgs-Sanders and Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg representatives Marcus Brooks and Harold Bryant were present to celebrate and assist in the event. Christopher Lampley and India Johnson of the Enoch Davis Center were instrumental in providing the public with a wonderful celebration of community cheer to honor Juneteenth and the end of slavery.

Special thanks are given to Heavy’s Food Truck for a delicious meal, TASCO for their incredible and soulful entertainment, the amazing vendors that provided information about community services and all others that made this event a success.
