Celebrate 100 years of kingdom building with Bishop Manuel L. Sykes, the clergy and members of Bethel Community Baptist Church Oct. 21-22 at 2901 54th Ave. S.
ST. PETERSBURG — Bishop Manuel L. Sykes, the clergy and members of Bethel Community Baptist Church, 2901 54th Ave. S, will observe the celebration of their church’s centennial jubilee! This 100th anniversary marks not only the feast of the church but also the joy of a century in making itself an outstanding bulwark in the community.
It’s amazing to think it was 100 years ago that a small group of people gathered with the desire to plant a church that would have an impact on their community. Little did they realize what would happen, but I’m sure they dreamed about the possibilities.
There was a time in the Old Testament when the temple was being rebuilt, and Zechariah 4:10a (MSG) asks: Does anyone dare despise the day of small beginnings? They will change their tune when they see Zerubbabel setting the last stone in place!
With any great work, there will always be some level of opposition, especially when it comes to the work of God. We may never know the struggles it took to get this fledgling work off the ground, but one thing we do know is that it did indeed get off the ground, and Bethel continues to serve as a pillar in the St. Petersburg community.
The weekend of activities begins Saturday, Oct. 21, with a homecoming parade, food, fun, and festivities on Bethel’s grounds from 10-5 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 22, Bishop Paul Sylvester Morton, founder of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International, will deliver the anniversary message.
Please come out and support this great occasion of being on the Bethel trail for 100 years!
