City Seeking Engaged individuals for Citizen Advisory Committee vacancies

The application deadline for the Citizen Advisory Committee for the South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Area is Nov. 11.

 

ST. PETERSBURG — The City of St. Petersburg is seeking interested business and property owners, residents, or stakeholders to fill several vacancies on the Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) for the South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Area (CRA).

What is the CAC?

The CAC, created by an interlocal agreement between the St. Petersburg City Council and the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners, is the city’s first redevelopment advisory committee and is comprised of nine members, of which six are appointed by the mayor and three appointed by the County Commission.

What does the CAC do?

The CAC advises the St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Agency on the South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Plan and any amendments to it as well as other issues and policies pertaining to the CRA.

What are the responsibilities of a CAC member?

The CAC typically meets the first Tuesday of each month at 5:15 p.m. unless the meeting is rescheduled or canceled due to holidays.

CAC members are also expected to attend special meetings when called. According to city policy, CAC members must have an attendance record of 75 percent or better within any consecutive 12-month period or be at risk of potential removal. Absences can be excused for “good cause,” meaning illness or death of an immediate family member, or due to business or vacation that requires the member to be out of the city on the day of the meeting.

The application deadline is Nov. 11. After the application closes, the city will begin reviewing applications/resumes for the current positions. The initial terms of service for the appointees will vary between one and three years, but all terms end on Jan. 31 each year.

New members are potentially eligible to serve up to two additional three-year terms. Applicants should expect to hear from the city within three weeks of the deadline if they are selected.

The city will accept applications and resumes on an ongoing basis beyond the deadline to maintain a pool of eligible candidates for future vacancies. Applications for this position will be valid for one year after receipt to allow the city to respond quickly to openings on the CAC that may occur during the year.
