Dear Reader,
I’m not sure how my words will find you when you read them, but I pray that they find you well and bring you hope and perspective.
Faith can become the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It can be your guide to victory, and it can become the playbook that gives insight on how to win the game. It helps you see what can’t be seen, and it will help you remain hopeful when all hope seems to be lost (ref. Hebrews 11:1-2 MSG). Dear Reader, faith will help you win the game.
Occasionally, in the game of life, like football, a touchdown is not always achieved on the first play; but a first down and forward movement can bring you closer to the goal post. It is from this perspective that I write and would like to encourage you to continue moving forward because the next play could be the game changer and opportunity that allows you to score. I’m no football enthusiast; in fact, my experience as a player and time on the field can be consolidated to my youthful days when I played in the little league for a short period of time. However, I found inspiration for these encouraging words through the game and sport. I did spend some time as I grew older around the football field as a Hydration Specialist, i.e., water boy 😊, when my older brother Andra played for our Alma Mater, Hillsborough High School. He was a very talented football player and, in fact, very good at the game and sport.
One must allow perseverance to lead them to the goal post, because a setback doesn’t mean that you won’t score; it simply means one must try again. We must run the plays and seek the opportunities that God has placed before us today, and we must allow the yard lines ahead of us and the goal post to be a focus on a daily basis because sometimes a touchdown is achieved in one play, while in others it may take a few downs and plays to move you closer to the end zone.
The game of football, like life, must be won with endurance, because if you continue to play and do your part, you’ll find yourself standing in the end zone at some point within the game. So, keep running; you’re almost there. Don’t give up, and don’t grow weary because you’re almost there. You’re literally closer than you’ve ever been. If you quit now, Beloveds, you’ll never know what might have been.
Dear Reader, continue to trust God even in the most difficult places, because He will see to it that you make it to the destination of His promises. I want you to know that you are not alone, and it is my prayer that this column will make you feel as though you have a place to belong and somewhere to call home.
