Dear Reader: Prepare for the Storm

Hi, Dear Reader, and blessing and favor to you. I’m not sure how my words will find you when you read them, but I pray that they find you well and bring hope and perspective to you.

As we prepare for Hurricane Milton on the West Coast of Florida, I want to speak with those who may need advice and have concerns about its projection path models.

I’m not a meteorologist or expert, and the only experiences that I have with storms are the ones that I have lived through and experienced here in Florida my whole life, but I pray that these details are helpful if you have been considering evacuating.

So many struggle with accessibility and resources in preparation for a storm, especially with Helene that just passed.

I would like to encourage those who are being advised to evacuate to seek shelter and to find out your county’s locations. For those who are considering traveling, continue to do so, and be sure to note in advance how that evacuation area might also be affected by the storm, as some storms affect us all in their own way.

So, be safe and aware, and remember that faith can, too, sometimes call for us to move (evacuate). One of my mom’s favorite scriptures, and one of the last she recited to me before she passed, states that the Name of the Lord is a strong tower and that those who need safety can find it there. I would like to focus on two ways that this scripture can be impactful: A safe place is necessary, and, too, sometimes faith requires you to move. We have been considering traveling inland to ride this one out, because any inland location along the North East I-75 & I-4 corridor could be a more central location of Florida to retreat to.

Storms can bring with them different elements, but the most important thing is to choose a location where you are safe. Possessions are replaceable, but you, Beloved are not; so, prepare, and do what you must to be safe. Kaye’s and my thoughts are with you, and our hearts and thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones and who are still trying to recover from the last storm. It is sincerely our prayer that the hands of the Lord will be there to protect, guide, and comfort you all throughout the storm.

Dear Reader, continue to trust God even in the difficult places, because He will see to it that you make it to the destination of His promises. I want you to know that you are not alone, and it is my prayer that this column will make you feel as though you have a place to belong and somewhere to call home.
